As an island paradise, Ibiza is known for its exciting nightlife and stunning beaches, but the island also offers incredible hiking opportunities. Today, I want to share some of my favourite hikes on this magical island:
Atlantis: A Hidden Gem
Perhaps the most intriguing of all is Atlantis. Not your typical hike, this journey leads you to an old sandstone quarry that has been transformed into an absolutely beautiful golden landscape with incredible views of Es Vedra.
The only way to reach this spot is by a 40-minute mountain hike downward. There's no real path, just a rocky, sandy route that eventually leads to the bottom. So, be careful, or hike down there with a guide.
The path down is steep, so I'd recommend wearing trainers and bringing lots of water. Be cautious and watch your step as there are plenty of cliffs and drop-offs around.
Once you do get there, you'll be greeted by beautifully carved rocks and pools of water that look like pieces of art. The rock formations here were created in the 1960s by hippies, who made the quarry their meeting place and carved shapes and faces into the soft rock, creating a stunning city-like structure on the water.
I suggest embarking on this adventure super early in the summer to avoid the heat and the crowds. If you ask me, the best time for this hike would be in October or November. And remember, what goes down must come back up, so be ready for a steep climb!
Cala Llonga/Amante: A Coastal Walk
Another favourite hike of mine and one that my dog Teddy loves as well is the Cala Llonga to Amante trail. This path follows the coastline, offering almost constant sea views as you make your way up to the top.
Despite having some challenging parts, the reward is absolutely worth it when you get to experience the view.
Down the other side of the hill, you end up at Amante. You could stop for a gorgeous lunch or dinner overlooking the ocean. The restaurant is fantastic, with luxurious day beds, and sun loungers for an indulgent afternoon chill.
Then, you’re right back in Cala Llonga where you started.
Sa Talaia: A View Like No Other
Last, but certainly not least, is the hike to Sa Talaia. This trek takes you to the highest point on Ibiza, which stands at 475m. The starting point is the church in San Josep, and from there, you simply follow the signs for Sa Talaia. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the top.
Once there, you'll be greeted by a breathtaking and surreal 360-degree view of Ibiza and Formentera. It's the perfect spot to sit with your thoughts and even meditate. The tranquillity and the panoramic views are just what you need to feel rejuvenated.
Hiking in Ibiza offers the opportunity to see a side of the island that many miss. From the historical carvings at Atlantis to the idyllic views from Sa Talaia, these hikes offer an unforgettable experience. So, if you're planning a trip to Ibiza, don't forget to pack your hiking boots!
This post is based on my own experiences. I would recommend double-checking any details before your visit, particularly for trail closures or any possible restrictions due to seasonal changes or events. Enjoy your hikes in Ibiza, and tag @albaandrock on your socials so we can experience it with you!
